Thus revealed, the creature buried its nose in the tire-tilled soil...

I'm alive; Scary-Crayon updated.
Category: Art … SC Updates

Hey all. Sorry if anyone was worried -- I've just been pretty busy and exhausted and stuff these past few days. Hopefully the upcoming three day weekend will give me a chance to recuperate. But for those of you who were actually concerned, thanks. Here's a random drawing for your trouble:

He's baaaaack...

So, what's new? Well, the Scary-Crayon blog isn't up yet (maybe this weekend?), but the site's been updated with Dusty Plastic HELL: Hot Flash #45. It's based on recent events happening down in Florida! See, I read more than just the horoscopes and Pearls Before Swine in the newspaper on occasion.

Speaking of newspapers, a couple of the local ones around here started printing a game called Sudoku, which I'm not going to explain but which you could probably find out about from a simple google search. Apparently it's all the rage, but I don't get why folks are so excited. Yeah, it's more fun and accessible than crossword puzzles, but it's way simple! I guess it's a neat little thing to do in the morning while one sips one's morning coffee and shovels soggy corn flakes into one's mouth (not me, though; I don't have time for that in the mornings, but I'll probably start doing the puzzles when I get into the office in the morning), but I'm not dancing in the streets or writing in to praise the game and I wouldn't cry if they took it away.

It's fucking late and I should probably get some sleep.

Bloggers by Wes, Series 3!!!
Category: Art

Okay! Given that the last time I did this was way back in November (in addition to this entry a couple of days earlier), I figured it was time for more BLOGGERS BY WES. If I remember correctly, Phil made a comment to the effect of "I guess Wes only draws female bloggers!" -- so this time, to prove him oh-so wrong, the cast is all male. I will say, however, that (generally speaking) drawing women in this style is or at least can be slightly easier. Facial features are more/less ignored -- though sometimes I try and approximate the shape of the face -- so I have to rely on other things to make a drawing look like the person in question.

Usually it comes down to hair and props -- and men tend to have more boring and less identifiable hairstyles. So props take on a much greater role. But men don't tend to accessorize! So that complicates things. Clothing would also be very helpful -- and it is with cartoon characters, who (have you noticed?) tend to wear the exact same goddamned thing every time they appear, and can therefore be easily identified by outfit alone, but real people tend to like variety in their wardrobes (not me, though; I dream of a closet filled with little black shirts and pairs of black jeans, with maybe a few pairs of black leather pants). Anyway, let's get to the drawings. See if you can guess who's who! (more...)

Aw, quit yer bellyachin'!
Category: Miscellany

Today, I have shredded in excess of four thousand pages of social security numbers, with still roughly five hundred or so that must be fed by my hand to that mechanical contraption that shares its name with that of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' arch-nemesis. It is an exceedingly tedious and boring and noisy task, but it keeps me from focusing on this gnawing pain in the pit of my gut.

Usually the hunger pangs don't set in until about 12:50PM, but today they were upon me even before 10:00AM. I think it's because I actually ate three meals yesterday (!), whereas I'm used to only eating once a day in the evening. (Sure, I suffer around midday, but eventually my stomach gives up its futile protest and the pain subsides.) But yesterday there was food! I never eat breakfast before I leave for work, but since yesterday was the last day for one of our employees, the staff put together a farewell continental breakfast for her. I got half a sweet roll and two cups of juice. Yesterday also happened to be the college's annual HOT DOG DAY (!), so while I don't eat beef hot dogs, I did enjoy a lunch consisting of a hot dog bun with ketchup and mustard in addition to some cookies and a soda. And then I went to TGIFriday's for dinner with my mom and my cousin, which also involved eating. Anyway, apparently my body got used to food and now it thinks it's supposed to receive nourishment several times a day. HA! I'm debating breaking open this bag of chips that I saved from HOT DOG DAY, but I don't want my stomach to get the impression that giving into its bellyaching will be a regular thing. (more...)

Batman returns!
Category: Art

The Batman, GO!

So I actually drew (and posted) these a while ago on the old Blog of Wes, but with the new Batman film in theaters and me having (hopefully) gained some new readers since last September, I figured I'd post these drawings again. (Click the above pic to open a larger version in a new window.) Obviously, their look more/less takes after the style of the newest Batman animated series, but they're Batman! Everyone likes the Dark Knight. 🙂

Inspired by the Batman Returns: Deep Dive Batman action figure.

And now I'm off to bed. Ja ne, minna-san!
