I'll be back later tonight with a more substantial post, though it may not be a very long one. The argument raging on in Amanda's blog is now about homosexuality, a topic that Dawn, Anon, and Val have all posted on recently (links will take you to the relevant posts, and am I leaving anyone out)? So I think I'll offer my thoughts on the subject too. Briefly. Ok?

I won the damned Super Turtle and I'm still considering bidding on these bad boys. One Super Turtle is never enough -- like potato chips, they are.

Apologies to anyone who tried to visit the site between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM tonight -- I was mucking around with the .htaccess file again to see if I couldn't set the log file not to record image requests. Sadly, that endeavor was a failure, but I did make it so that all people typing "scary-crayon.com" into their browsers get redirected to "www.scary-crayon.com", in addition to simplifying the image blocking script by a couple of lines. I can't figure out what went wrong with the log mods, though -- my guess is that the server won't let me mess with the log files, so all attempts to do so ended in error. After all, it won't let me delete them, so I can see why it wouldn't let me modify them. That really sucks. 🙁 (more...)

Okay, so I'm kind of late with this -- everyone's probably off at their romantic dinners by now, or huddled on the couch with a bottle of vodka and a stack of dvds -- but here's the official Valentine's Day entry. Yesterday's poem was relevant, but this is the genuine article, folks.

Okay, I promised a poem for Valentine's Day, so here we go -- I wrote this one in 2001 or so, I think, though I occasionally return to it and modify it slightly. "Railroad Spike" is based, in part, on the events of a flashback in the Buffy episode "Fool for Love", which aired during the fifth season, and it takes its title from the quote of one of the persons who, upon hearing Spike's poetry (before Spike became a vampire), remarked, "I'd rather have a railroad spike through my head than listen to that awful stuff!" (After being made a vampire, we can imagine that Spike did just that, for William, as he was known in life, earned the nickname "Spike" by torturing his victims with railroad spikes.) (more...)
