SC notes, Shore Leave fan art, Dusty Plastic HELL #4...
Category: Art … SC Updates

Well, Blogger suddenly looks very strange. More options! Which are mostly unnecessary, except for making colorful/blinding text. Hey Mickey, at least your preview thing is back, yes?

Anyway, as a result of my carried-over exhaustion from the con and my mood and frustration with working at the bookstore (I'll spare you the miseries of the past week for the moment, except to note that there was a woman who saw "over 35,000 definitions" on the cover of a dictionary and was hesitant to get it because she thought that meant that the dictionary only contained the definitions of words -- and not their spellings...) and a few other things, last week was a slow week for Scary-Crayon updates. Ah well; the Shore Leave Report was two pages, so I'm telling myself that partially excuses my negligence. Anyway, hopefully this coming week will get us more/less back on track -- I was thinking I'd update tonight, but now the plan is to use my day off tomorrow to finally shoot and code the fourth episode of Dusty Plastic HELL. And then maybe I can post a really old Foodstuffs piece -- like, that I shot way back January or February -- that referenced a development in it. Yeah, a lot of stuff for SC is either done way in advance... or I'm way late with getting it up. The pics for the old food piece aren't as great as the newer ones, since I think I've gotten better with the camera in the interim, but at least the concept is kinda interesting. Tempura frying is involved...

And did I mention that I've got two more issues of the Red Lobster Fun Book lying around? Not to mention a bunch of DVDs and other assorted viewable crap that could use reviewing. And jeez I've got so many Random Lunches photographed it's ridiculous, and I've always got some thoughts that could make for a great Miscellaneous piece. Tons of stuff, folks. So it's not that we lack content, it's just that I have to find the time/motivation to actually write the pieces. Bear with me. Also feel free to send me stuff. Like money. And openings for jobs more suited to someone with my... "talents"... because this bookstore job is fucking killing me.

Time for a few graphics -- despite a few unfavorable reviews of the Shore Leave Report, a few fellow webmasters liked it enough to send over some fan art.

''WES'' by Professor Hazard

Here, we have a portrait of me in my Shore Leave uniform, drawn by none other than Professor Hazard of the Hazard Labs. Thanks, guy! I really like this one. Badass. 🙂

''WES and CLINT HOWARD at Shore Leave'' by RPD

And from RPD of Ice Anvil Online, here's a South Park style rendition of my epic meeting with Clint Howard. It's always kinda hard to do me in SP style, but RPD really captured Clint with this one. Excellent work.

And speaking of Shore Leave, Kara Dennison of ConScrew wrote up a report of the event here. It's not quite as involved or "fun" as the SC report, but it's a good straight and serious (and quick) review for those of you who didn't appreciate my wacky and sarcastic tone. I didn't think the review was all that offensive, but then again I was just passing through. For some folks who've been going to the con for years, I can see why they'd take my jabs a little more personally. Try not to. 😛

And that's a wrap. Stay tuned for the fourth issue of Dusty Plastic HELL!
