Scary-Crayon Updated!
Category: SC Updates

Uhmmm...does Blogger look whacked out to anyone else? Does anyone else miss the old Blogger design? Or am I the only one?

Speaking of new designs, Scary-Crayon is back with a makeover! Utilizing the knowledge that fashionable women have known for centuries, I've decided to go with a slimming new vertical stripey background. Irregular, because at first I was thinking I'd try to make it look like a really wrinkled curtain, but I neglected to take into account that I was working on a zoomed-in display so I ended up with that. And then I really liked it! So there we are. The section archive pages, as well, have been done up in the new look of the main page, and the archive links are now accompanied by my ol' pals the SCARY FACES. I <3 Scary Faces.

Oh, and we've got a special Mother's Day Crayon Haiku up, too. Yeah, it's a day late, but SC is a non-profit deal so the dollar short thing doesn't apply. 😛

Not much has been up with me these past few days -- just work on the visual update, mostly. Oh, and I saw Troy last night. Hadn't planned on it, but it was showing free on the base, so Mom dragged me out to that... So here's my quick two cents: Save your money and just rent any movie that's ever been done about the Trojan War (or just watch Braveheart or Spartacus again, for that matter). I've seen at least two made-for-television movies that quite surpassed this one in every respect except the budget (and possibly the acting, where they'd strike a par). This film felt more like a television miniseries than a movie, mainly because of the direction -- I find the knowledge that Wolfgang Peterson directed it to be shocking, since the direction struck me as so amateurish. Brian Cox's cartoon villain Agamemnon didn't help, though, since that kind of a character encourages cartoon-style direction. I almost broke out laughing during several of the scenes when Troy was burning. And no, not because I'm sadistic...

Oh, and here's something else that bothers me -- why is it that in almost every war movie there's a young rookie who thinks that war is all great and glorious, and there's always the hardened veteran who steps up and says, "Have you ever killed a man? Have you ever blah blah detailed description? Have you ever watched a man die? I have -- and there is nothing glorious about it." Yet the director spends the entire movie trying his/her damnedest to make the war look pretty freakin' glorious, with slow motion battle scenes and zooms here and pans there and fancy light tricks off the swords and a full orchestral score and all of that crap.

Well, I dug up some old writings of mine that are relevant to the subject, so at least I can capitalize on Troy's release by making an SC featurette of sorts. Woo.

So. New layout, Mother's Day Crayon Haiku. Trojan War featurette coming soon. Yay Scary-Crayon!
