Thus revealed, the creature buried its nose in the tire-tilled soil...

Stuff, Notes from the past, Non-standard beauty.
Category: Miscellany

Well, given that I haven't heard anything about the other two jobs and they're willing to reinstate me at my old salary back at the community college, it looks like I'm going to take that position after all. Which means, since they apparently want me to start on Monday, I couldn't even be unemployed for more than a single week! GRRR. On the plus side, I did get some drawing done today, illustrating no less than five Hot Flashes (no scanning/coloring yet, though) and drawing the primary background for MY FIRST ILLUSTRATED BOOK! It's going to be hilarious. Promise. 😎

Okay, new topic. You know what I really like? Hearing from people I haven't heard from in a while -- especially when I didn't think I'd ever hear from those people again. What's also kind of fun is analyzing just how they begin the communication, as it's admittedly kind of awkward to send someone a message whom you haven't spoken with in a number of years and who may or may not remember you. Usually I'll include some mention of how or where I met that person in order to jog the person's memory -- in this case, the person cited a mutual friend. I found it particularly amusing here, though, since the person I heard from falls into that class of people that, for whatever reason, I will never forget, though admittedly I hadn't thought about that person in a while. But anyway, it's neat to hear from people like that.

Okay, what the fuck is this? I mentioned the other day that I picked up some random CDs, among which was the rather lackluster album "The Craving" by MD.45. Well, I'm playing it now, and there's an anti-hate song on here. THIS IS THRASH/METAL MUSIC! I don't want to hear thrash songs about fighting hate, okay? Thrash should be about thrashing one's enemies and cracking bones and skulls, goddamnit! ARGH.

Oh, one more thing. Yesterday Omni wrote a post entitled "Revlon embraces non-standard beauty", in which she praises Revlon for choosing actress Kate Bosworth to model their new mascara because apparently her eyes are two different colors. C'mon, that's not praiseworthy. Omni writes, "Would you have imagined that any company would EVER use a woman with such an atypical feature to advertise ANYTHING, much less a variety of eye makeup?" SURE! Hell, I've seen ads in which models' eyes are MADE to look as if they're different colors, whether through the use of contact lenses or digital manipulation. Because, like Omni notes, "...this ad really grabs the attention and virtually guarantees that you'll sit there looking at it... and, more than likely, at the facing page, which shows the product. You'll remember the ad, and thus the product..." So it's a sensible, calculated move in the interest of profit as opposed to something meant to constitute a genuine "embrace of non-standard beauty." Because if they really wanted to do that, they'd seek out a traveling gypsy circus and get one of the bearded ladies to advertise the product or something. 😛 Or, better yet, they'd get me to do it!

And that's all for now. Is it me, or are these posts getting longer? Ja. 🙂
