(Pasted from another entry...)

So after installing WordPress on the new domain, I spent the better part of the day mucking with divs and PHP and CSS templates and other design-related crap only to rediscover what I should've remembered from way back when I first started this blog and then later when I attempted to convert SC to a primarily CSS-based layout -- for reliable cross-browser compatibility, tables are still the way to go. Now that I've settled on a table-based layout, I just need to decide on the design specifics for the new wesoteric.com. Implementation should go fairly smoothly then, but man I wasted a lot of time today! Ah well, at least I picked up a bit of PHP along the way... that include function should come in handy for future endeavors. But damn, this WordPress is complicated stuff! I dunno how Tina does it. 😛 Fooling with endless lists of variables and values and specifications that you didn't create and/or set and therefore have little idea how/where they are used -- or, for that matter, if they are used at all, let alone if you require them for your purposes -- is pretty mind-numbing stuff. It's enough to make me want to try coding the Scary-Crayon blog from scratch -- it'd be pretty difficult, true, but at least then I'd be mostly aware of what was going on. Anyway, the SC blog will be on hold until I've made more headway on wesoteric.com.

With Monday morning comes another two-hitter from Scary-Crayon: A Crayon Haiku #27 and Dusty Plastic HELL: Hot Flash #32. Enjoy!

Get some sleep, Wes.

Coming soon... wesoteric.com
Category: Miscellany

So I registered the domain and did some file shifting and all is well, so pretty soon there should be some major changes around here. After looking over the new WordPress 1.5 improvements, I think I may implement it on both sites, using it simply for blogging purposes on Scary-Crayon and using it to control the entirety of wesoteric.com. Plus WordPress can import Blogger entries, so I shouldn't have a problem switching over. Fun times ahead, kiddies.

Pretty soon I'm also going to get started on my book. One of them, anyway -- at the moment I've got three really good book ideas kicking around in my head. Well, more like four or five, but only two or three that could reasonably be completed any time soon (the other two are like the work of years). Hell, I could finish one in a week -- or less! -- if I worked really hard on it. But I'm in no hurry. 🙂

And why doesn't anyone think I'm cute? I mean, I don't really expect them to -- we've been through that recently -- but it seems like I'm the only male employee at the bookstore who hasn't had some freakish regular swooning over him at one point or another. And it's probably better that they're not that into me, given that that would be slightly annoying and potentially uncomfortable, but first it would be flattering! I only had something even remotely close to that happen once -- back in November I was calling customers to let them know that their orders had come in and one asked me if I was "the cute guy." I said, "Probably not," whereupon the customer gave a few more details, asking if I was "the cute, short black guy." Of course, I didn't find this description flattering in the least, but rather than pulling a Ghost Dad (which, for the uninitiated, involves diving into the phone, popping out the other end, and chewing out the person on the other line), I merely responded with, "I... guess so." The woman on the other end said, "You guess so? You don't know if you're cute?" to which I responded, "It's really not something I think too much about, ma'am." And then I reiterated that she could pick up her book from the customer service desk any time during the next two weeks.

All for now. Ja!

Scary-Crayon updated! and stuff.
Category: SC Updates

First things first -- Dusty Plastic HELL: Hot Flash #31 is up. Enjoy. 🙂

I'm in the midst of making a few substantial changes to my presence(s) on the web, so bear with me in the coming weeks -- in addition to hopefully starting up the Scary-Crayon blog, I should be moving my personal stuff here from a subdomain to an actual domain *gasp* and switching over to another program for my blogging needs. I think I'm going to give b2evolution a try on SC, and if that works implement it as my own personal tool... and if that doesn't tickle my fancy, I'll go with WordPress. We'll see. But before that, there's going to be a whole lotta shakin' goin' on as this becomes its own domain! What do y'all think of wesoteric.com for the site name?

www.WESoteric.com

I kinda like it! But if not that, wesg0thic.com has always been a favorite.

I was going to go on about issues of blogs and how they could make one more or less attractive to potential employers -- with reference to myself, given that I use Scary-Crayon as my calling card and a source of clips and that the blog is fairly easily found from there -- but I'll save that for a later date. Or I may not return to it! Who knows. In the meantime, tell me what you think of wesoteric.com (or wesg0thic.com) for a potential personal site domain name.

And comment on the Hot Flash, too! Ja. 🙂
