Happy birthday to me!
Category: SC Updates

First, thanks to all of the folks who've wished me a happy birthday thus far! And thanks to Mickey and Molly for prezzies. 🙂

So just because it's my birthday doesn't mean I don't have stuff for you -- head on over to Scary-Crayon for two new pieces: Dusty Plastic HELL: Hot Flash #51 and Hell Nooooo Nurse! I'd actually submitted the latter to The Black Table for potential posting there, but after a couple of queries I didn't hear back from them so I'm guessing they didn't like it. That's cool, though -- Scary-Crayon actually got started up because I'd written so many unwanted articles that I figured I might as well post them somewhere. Much like my room, SC is a junkyard of random and wacky crap.

All for now -- ja ne, minna-san!

    Happy Birthday, Wes!!! ^_^

  • Chatterer says:

Happy birthday Wes! My teeth are chattering just for you!

  • Matt says:

Happy birthday, good sir. I'd send you a card, but I don't know where you live.

The Black Table may have ignored it because it was a personal essay... if you look at the submissions page, they say they don't take personal essays. If you had reslanted this as more of a jokey but factual article, they may have taken it.

Also, the tone is a bit too "you", Wes. In other words, while the BT likes grouchy and bitter, I don't think much of what I've seen there is nearly as dark as what you wrote.

I liked it, though, for what it's worth.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!

You are still young as all hell.

  • CL says:

Yeah, they don't post personal essays. But I loooove the artwork. 😉

Hm, so that would qualify as a personal essay? Interesting. I read the submissions page and something else on there -- which I can't find at the moment -- that led me to believe otherwise. It hardly (I think) qualifies as one of "the kinds of first-person memoirs that show up on diary sites" and I don't think it constitutes "just one person's view on their own life," seeing as how it's my view on nursing, etc. But no big -- Scary-Crayon'll take anything I write, since that's what it was created for!

    And me, dark? Nah... 😉

  • Joel says:

Well, it can be personal, but it needs at least a scintilla of either newsiness or serviciness. You were basically just posting what, in retrospect, is more of an op-ed article than a personal essay. They generally don't take pure op-eds either. Maybe if you put some information in from that article about nursing uniforms you sent me a few weeks ago, that might have helped.

Oh, and take out all the information about death and guts. Not quite their style.
