Who has the sicker sense of humor: me or CNN?
Category: Miscellany

The first sentence in the CNN political ticker report about the death of Tony Snow reads:

Former White House press secretary Tony Snow -- who once told reporters "I'm a very lucky guy" -- died at the age of 53 early Saturday after a second battle with cancer.

Why would they choose that quote, only to follow it up with something that is so decidedly unlucky? I enjoy an ironic and/or morbid crack as much as and probably even more than the next guy, but even I would curb my wicked sense of humor when writing news articles about the deaths of public figures (excluding entertainers, of course). That's just tacky.

Were I to take a guess... He went from being a host on fair and balanced Fox to a being a Bush administration spokesperson. I guess the irony as they see it is that he attributed that to luck as opposed to the fact that he was practically training for the job with horribly biased and misleading reporting. So it's probably sour grapes on CNN reporting on a competitor.

You're probably right -- but I still think it's a tacky thing to do! I think it's even more interesting that nobody in the comments (or at least the ones CNN published!) called them on that unceremonious lead.

Oh yeah, it was tacky, just deep seeded.

That'll teach him to say he's lucky!
