Scary-Crayon reviews *Lavender*!

Hey all! Hope you had a great weekend. I'll say a few words about mine in a bit, but first, let's kick things off off with a new Scary-Crayon Spectare article -- a short review of Lavender! Assuming you've never heard of it, it's about a grieving aromatherapist who learns to love again when an angel moves in with her. It's pretty cute, even with all of the weirdness in the film -- weirdness like the angel's shoe fetish and the woman's flamboyantly gay, afro wig-wearing neighbor. Anyway, read the review here! Also, in the categories section of the blog, I've added one for film! All future film-related commentary, including SC articles and blogged thoughts, then, will be grouped accordingly. Yay!

Congratulations, Kristen!

So I had a pretty eventful weekend. (I'll probably talk about Friday's events in a future post, but for the moment, I'll just say thanks to everyone involved -- I had a great time!). On Saturday, my dad and I rode out to Durham, North Carolina to attend my sister's graduation from Duke University the following day! CONGRATULATIONS, KRISTEN! Good luck in all of your future endeavors and stuff. Next time, hook me up with one of your hot friends! 😉

Bacardi for the win!

And being my sister's dog and all, Bacardi was there too! He is great.

Anyway, now I'm back and very tired since I didn't get to do a whole lot of resting this weekend and I must be awake for work in like three hours so I guess I should get to sleep now, shouldn't I? Alrighty, then! Ja ne and goodnight, minna-san. 🙂

Congrats to your sister. Will she and Bacardi be moving in for the summer?

  • Wes says:

Nope -- I think she's got a job at Duke, so she and Bacardi going to stay down there. Which is probably for the best!

  • Becky says:

Wow. You and your sister look so much alike. And, what a smart family -- Yale and Duke? Your review is interesting and the movie sounds like one I might watch, if Hawaii actually showed indies that small. I realized that the Angel was also in House of Flying Daggars. I think I would also have a hard time grasping the acceptance of the cheating element, as I have difficulty watching movies that kind of glorify adultery anyway. I saw Merchant of Venice on Friday night with Pacino and I really enjoyed it.

Duke University's campus is so beautiful! My friend from North Carolina, who incidentally is named Kristin (!), took me there when I was down there visiting her. It's just lovely.

Your sister is really pretty! And Bacardi's cute, too!

  • Wes says:

Becky: She'd be physically sick if she heard you say that we look alike! And yeah, she's pretty smart too -- not as smart as I am, mind you ;), but then her intellect apparently has much more practical value than my own.

Regarding Takeshi Kaneshiro's role in House of Flying Daggers, someone who took slight offense to my comparison of Kaneshiro to Keanu Reeves noted that the former was in that film and could act, thus rendering the comparison inaccurate and even insulting! I still maintain that he looks like Reeves and plays a pretty goofy role in this movie and, as such, the comparison is at least valid in this instance. And yeah, the cheating thing was just weird -- they didn't quite glorify it, per se, but they also didn't even acknowledge it as cheating at all -- it was just an accepted fact of relationships or something. Weird.

Wendy: I'm actually not much of a fan of the Duke campus -- sure, it's pretty, but Yale was quite attractive too and wasn't so large that a student needs to catch a bus to his/her next class!

And yeah, everyone thinks Kristen's pretty -- that's why she's the favorite child in pretty much all venues! And everyone loves Bacardi, too.
