Bloggers by Wes, Series 3!!!
Category: Art … Blog

Okay! Given that the last time I did this was way back in November (in addition to this entry a couple of days earlier), I figured it was time for more BLOGGERS BY WES. If I remember correctly, Phil made a comment to the effect of "I guess Wes only draws female bloggers!" -- so this time, to prove him oh-so wrong, the cast is all male. I will say, however, that (generally speaking) drawing women in this style is or at least can be slightly easier. Facial features are more/less ignored -- though sometimes I try and approximate the shape of the face -- so I have to rely on other things to make a drawing look like the person in question.

Usually it comes down to hair and props -- and men tend to have more boring and less identifiable hairstyles. So props take on a much greater role. But men don't tend to accessorize! So that complicates things. Clothing would also be very helpful -- and it is with cartoon characters, who (have you noticed?) tend to wear the exact same goddamned thing every time they appear, and can therefore be easily identified by outfit alone, but real people tend to like variety in their wardrobes (not me, though; I dream of a closet filled with little black shirts and pairs of black jeans, with maybe a few pairs of black leather pants). Anyway, let's get to the drawings. See if you can guess who's who!

I think I hear a Danny Elfman tune!

Obviously, I didn't draw the background of this pic. :P

Nice cloak...

Yes, that's a real website pasted into that laptop screen!

What an affable dude!

Man, that priest looks pissed.

What the heck is he smoking?

The green background has absolutely no significance whatsoever, but you can pretend I meant for it to be suggestive of money or something.

Aaaaand that's it! Guess away in the comments! Bonus points if you get the significance of the props.

The second one is obviously TAB b/c of the computer, even with JDate in the background (which is hilarious). I don't know the rest b/c I'm not familiar with your other male bloggers nor what they look like. I would guess the first one is Phil b/c you mentioned him in the post.

Actually, I've always thought you had more male commenters than female.

Good job -- very clever!

I know who #1, #3, and #4 are. Who's the second guy?

So that is what the mysterious T.A.B. looks like, is that his work clothes, or is he dressed for a date?

HA HA HA!!! That's awesome, Wes.

I can only figure out one - the most obvious one, obviously.

That 's amazing how a few subtle strokes capture my hairline and the shape of my jaw! But what it that thing in my hand?

-posted by Dave | June 27, 2005 | 4:22 am

That would be a banana peel stogie.

So, who's #3?

-posted by Becky | June 27, 2005 | 1:07 pm

I'm pretty sure TAB knows -- and understands the significance of the scene as well. Care to fill us in, TAB?

#3 is AKAChris. The black-and-white priest is Frank Miller as he was depicted in the movie "Sin City". For the full story about Chris' encounter with Frank Miller, read his blog.

Very good!

when he asked what was in his hand I think he meant the cigar or cigarette, whatever it is.

-posted by Josh | June 27, 2005 | 4:40 pm

A stogie is a cigarette.

The Chris one is my favorite! TAB is good too. And if the last one is Dave that is pretty dead on. I'm not too sure about the first one. I guess it's Phil.

Of course it's me!

Very good drawings, Wes!
