Thus revealed, the creature buried its nose in the tire-tilled soil...

Threat of the Stampman
Category: Serious

He's called multiple times today -- likely once from his health care service provider (seriously!) and at least twice from a pay phone. He may also have called at least once using a calling card, though we can't say for certain whether those calls (which occur daily from the same 866 number) are from him or a telemarketer.

Anyway, since we obviously didn't answer his most recent pay phone call, he left a short message:

Blocking my phone number is not in your best interests.

...Yes.

Awww, shit. I thought he'd kicked up the creepiness about a million percent the last time, but I think he's outdone himself now. =(

  • megz says:

is your mom going to press charges?? this guy needs to be locked up in a mental hospital or something... very scary stuff Wes 🙁

  • dave says:

Doesn't he understand you guys prefer the written correspondence so he can live up to his namesake??

  • Jersey Girl says:

    Call the police. Now!! Seriously.

  • Wes says:

Mick: He's all about breaking his previous records, isn't he?

Megz: Terrifying! And yeah, Mom's trying to do something about it... but unfortunately it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot that can be done.

Dave: Ha! Actually, he did send over a creepy Halloween card that I need to scan at some point.

JG: Mom did go to the police station last night, but apparently they weren't willing to do anything. From the sound of things, the lady at the desk refused to believe her.

  • Ro says:

Eek! I think you should keep informing law enforcement and keep a record of all the evidence.

    I hope you are safe.

  • jenny says:

aah, that is really scary. i agree with ro.

(and also hope you scan the card!)

  • Jersey Girl says:

Can't your mom get a new, unpublished number? If he manages to call THAT one, you'd have some proof of harassment.

  • De says:

Prince George's County Police refusing to believe a harassment victim? Given their track record over the years, you would think they would be overly sensitive to this sort of thing. I guess they were too busy beating up five-foot reporters or something.

  • Becky says:

This is really disturbing, Wes. I hope your mom is okay and this guy just disappears. It's really rather unnerving how unhelpful the police are in these stalking situations, since our laws are only designed to punish -- not prevent. At least she should be able to get a restraining order at this point, right?
