Shore Leave HO! Or perhaps the grave?
Category: Photo

Sorry about the lack of posts lately -- been working and stuff. 😛 But this weekend I'm getting a bit of a vacation, since if all goes well I'll be heading out to Shore Leave with Em and De of Retroactive Continuity. My mum's all worried about it -- "Those weirdos from the Internet will rape and torture and kill you!" -- but hopefully I'll still be able to go. I'm 22, damnit! But now if I disappear or something, you know who to spam. 😛

Anyway, I'll be bringing the digicam -- and I'll be shooting mostly in a lower resolution, which gives me 196 shots instead of 54 -- so expect a full-on Scary-Crayon article and rant about the convention complete with lots of photos. Whenever I get around to it, that is. I've still got tons of photos from the Crystal City Labyrinth and the Smithsonian that need to be incorporated into articles. Oh, and speaking of articles, I'll be gone from Friday morning to Sunday evening and won't be able to upload anything then, but expect me to post a new piece tomorrow in the early AM hours. That should hold you over until next week. And if not, there's always stuff to check out and revisit in the archives. 🙂

HEY! Let's post some photos!

Short story submissions!

I dunno if I mentioned it, but I sent off two short stories on June 25th. Here they are on that fateful morning, all packed up and ready to go... so I guess I should be getting those rejections sometime in the next month or so.

Wes with hair.

So in preparation for the convention, I cut my hair (both head and facial) yesterday morning. Here's me before...

Wes with less hair.

And here's me after. I think I look meaner with the hair. 😛

I <3 you, rhino!

And I bought a plush rhino (for $2!!!) the other day. He's sooo cute! Now he needs a name. 🙂

Speaking of cute, I had a dream that I went on a date the other night, but was simultaneously sitting in a theater by myself and watching the date on the silver screen. It was incredibly cute. Like, Azumanga Daioh cute. I think I woke up blushing. Except I don't blush. Really great popcorn, too.

In other news, working at the bookstore is getting a little better. Granted, the customers still suck, and there are quite a few things about the job that really bother me, but I feel like I'm getting to know my coworkers a little better. I don't think I'll ever view the job as fantastic -- and hopefully I won't be there all that much longer; if I'm still there making $7 an hour in six months' time expect me to shoot or otherwise dispose of myself (half-kidding, but not really) -- but it's something.

Yesterday, a customer came in looking for a book on how to pass the FBI career entrance exams (or something like that). I was doing something else nearby, but I heard the gist of it -- her request and eventually that we didn't have it -- and as I walked by I said, "Maybe we don't have it because it's classified!" I was joking, of course. Get it? FBI! Classified!

Her response: "No, I don't think that's it."

Well. Guess my delivery was off. Or maybe it just wasn't as funny as it sounded in my head. :/

And I'm still looking for real/plastic/plush crayons of appropriate size to strap to my head (I guess the SC "mascot" crayon was a rare find...) for my convention "costume" (to promote SC!), but I haven't come up with anything so I'll probably end up going with one of those giant coin banks and toting it around like a rocket launcher. Should be fairly scary, since I generally wear all black as it is, but maybe I'll wear a pair of my hologram glasses (either the skull or the crucifix ones) and the trench coat to heighten the effect. Probably the scary earrings and ankh necklace, too. I'll have photos.

Ja for now!
