Category: SC Updates … Technical Stuff

Not technically a Scary-Crayon update, but since we're talking SC design stuff, I've marked it as such. Read on if that sort of thing interests you!

So April Fool's Day has come and gone, but I'm going to leave Oprah-Crayon up until middayish, until I swap it out and restore the main page with an added Hot Flash. For those curious about how Oprah-Crayon was created, it was another of my recent CSS experiments. I know I said I wouldn't worry about recreating SC in CSS, but I've been secretly working on just that -- I'd already done a working mockup of SC in CSS, so Oprah-Crayon was just a hastily modified version of that. For those of you interested in the CSS (and PHP!) SCs, have a look: here's version 1, which still uses a bit o' javascript for the rollover menu in the header block, and here's the super 31337 version that utilizes CSS for that purpose. It's pretty clever stuff! And in each document, PHP is used to call the sidebar (the same sidebar, actually), similar to the iframe used in the current html setup. I'm digging this PHP stuff -- I may have to start using it on all of the pages to call the common elements. 🙂

The pages even validate, which is more than I can say for all of the rest of SC! I never was one for specifying document types...
