New links!
Category: Miscellany

Hey, quick note -- I've added a few more links to the sidebar. Go read 'em!

I'll be back later tonight with a more substantial post, though it may not be a very long one. The argument raging on in Amanda's blog is now about homosexuality, a topic that Dawn, Anon, and Val have all posted on recently (links will take you to the relevant posts, and am I leaving anyone out)? So I think I'll offer my thoughts on the subject too. Briefly. Ok?

I won the damned Super Turtle and I'm still considering bidding on these bad boys. One Super Turtle is never enough -- like potato chips, they are.

Scary-Crayon updated!
Category: SC Updates

Two things.

First, Dusty Plastic HELL #2 is up. Read, enjoy. And while it may seem like I wrote it specifically to coincide with the second update, that's not true -- this thing has been written for months. It just so happened that I decided to put them both up at the same time. 🙂

Secondly, SC is now accepting PayPal donations! Further details are listed here, in the brief site info section at the bottom of the main page. But to echo what I said there -- if you enjoy SC and really feel compelled to donate, go ahead and make a donation, but it's not at all imperative that you do so. It's totally up to you. Other ways you could help are by donating toys (unlike children's charity organizations, they don't have to be new -- just don't send me toys filled with roaches and anthrax) and other random stuff that needs reviewing, or simply by telling your friends about the site. Even an e-mail with kind and encouraging words would be helpful. But yeah, money helps too, so now you've got a way to throw SC a dollar from time to time. 🙂 (more...)

Old editorials on a subject I hate.
Category: Serious

Given the discussion that's raging on in Amanda's blog -- and given that I'm really averse to writing a new and lengthy essay on the subject -- I figured I'd post a few older articles with related content. So here we go. The more recent of these is "On Diversity.", which I wrote shortly after last summer's Supreme Court decisions regarding race-based affirmative action. The older one, "E-mails & Diversity & Assumptions -- Oh My!", was written during my time as a staff writer for The Voice, an upstart student publication at Yale. It seems to be defunct now. I should e-mail the guys who ran it just to say hi, but I probably won't. 😉

(Note: Unlike most of my links, the editorials won't open in a new window, because they're only one page and link directly back to the blog. Just a heads up!)

This topic is filling me with frustration, which means I may end up working on my story in a bit. Fingers crossed!

I'm really tired right now -- just wanted to make a brief post before I take a nap and maybe don't wake up until morning. Or something.

Amanda's latest post is about the a "Whites-Only Scholarship" offered by a student group at Roger Williams University. There's quite a discussion going on in her blog, and despite the fact that I really hate these discussions, I threw in my two cents in a couple of posts, which I've pasted below: (more...)

.htaccess crap, ebay and ENOUSAI, and SC needs a Super Turtle!
Category: Miscellany

Apologies to anyone who tried to visit the site between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM tonight -- I was mucking around with the .htaccess file again to see if I couldn't set the log file not to record image requests. Sadly, that endeavor was a failure, but I did make it so that all people typing "" into their browsers get redirected to "", in addition to simplifying the image blocking script by a couple of lines. I can't figure out what went wrong with the log mods, though -- my guess is that the server won't let me mess with the log files, so all attempts to do so ended in error. After all, it won't let me delete them, so I can see why it wouldn't let me modify them. That really sucks. 🙁 (more...)
