The NYC recap!
Category: Dreams … Photo … Travels … TV, Film, & DVDs

But first, a word about today's interview. I think it went really well! Of course, I've been on interviews that I think went fairly well and then either didn't get the job or didn't even hear back from the company, so one never knows. Unless something comes up in the next couple of weeks, I'm pretty sure I'll take the position if they offer it to me, but no big if they don't -- I'll just skip town and head for NYC! So root for me or don't root for me, NYC area folks, depending upon how soon you'd like to have the Wes living in your midst. 😉 In any case, even if I get the job I'll be visiting again in early September -- gotta come up to meet the Beckster, you know. 🙂

What a haul!

So, NYC! I really had a great weekend there, despite learning some rather expensive lessons! I'm planning to go into some other details of the trip in a Scary-Crayon travel piece, but suffice it to say that, at least for me, fine dining is highly overrated, as apparently I have a rather unrefined palate. I know, I know -- "DUH Wes!", -- but still. Whatever. So after walking arriving in da city, I walked around Times Square and spent $40 on sushi 😐 before descending into Chinatown to buy DVDs and tiptoe around with my legs crossed because I realllllly had to pee. (Expect to hear the full story regarding that on SC, too... it's crazy, man.) My purchases appear above! In addition to the swanky AKUMA statuette, the films I got are as follows: (more...)

Blue weekend

Hey all -- hope you had a great weekend. Unfortunately, mine was fairly uneventful and unproductive. It started off well enough, with me taking care of a few errands and having a good telephone conversation with Mickey on Friday (it's worth noting, however, that my mother interrupted the conversation no less than three times, insisting that she needed to check her messages), but then I ended up sleeping until 6PM on Saturday and, due to the time lost, not getting a whole lot done during the rest of the weekend as a result. I mean I guess I needed the rest -- these weeks always exhaust the living hell out of me -- but it's still disappointing. (I did get a new Scary-Crayon article up, though!)

Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School

So yeah, not a whole lot happened. Other highlights included: Outdoing myself in the kitchen with another spectacular dish on Saturday night, believing myself to have purchased an entire bottle of congealed eggnog (it wouldn't pour! but actually, only the part at the base of the neck had congealed; it poured -- albeit with creamy chunks here and there -- once I poked a straw down there for a bit), and watching more episodes of "Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School". It's a short series -- thirteen eps; I've only got one remaining -- but I really like it.

As far as other DVDs go, I tried to watch What Dreams May Come but ended up stopping the film fifteen minutes later. It's bad enough that the movie quickly went from charming to tragic with death upon death upon death (way more death than in the book, even!), but then Cuba showed up all blurry and started twirling like a ballerina and I said, "Fuck this!" and switched that shit off. Then I popped Vamp in, but didn't get past the trailers before I decided I wasn't in the mood for a film and should probably go to sleep. But first I watched two more eps of "Samurai Girl" and suffered through a headache.

So that was my weekend -- and now it's back to fucking work. Ja.

Malicious Bitch movie reviews!
Category: Linkage … TV, Film, & DVDs

Those of you looking to hit the cinema this July 4th but need to be told what to see because you're too chickenshit to decide for yourself and deal with the consequences of your choice (or for those of you who just enjoy hearing what other folks have to think about current film releases ;)) can rejoice, 'cause Becky's Malicious Bitch column, A Fool's Gesture, has two new movie reviews for you! In addition to the Beckster's take on Spielberg's War of the Worlds, there's a She Said/He Said review of Geroge A. Romero's Land of the Dead -- with yours truly voicing the He Said portion of the installment! Enjoy!

By the way, if you missed my take on the other two releases I saw this year, those are here. And of course I've written up a number of films and other visual media in the Spectare section of Scary-Crayon. 🙂 Ja!

"Veronica Mars" and ZOMBIE <3

I happened to catch an episode of "Veronica Mars" tonight, and I have to admit that it wasn't too bad. Actually, De recommended the show to me quite a while ago, but I never got around to watching it -- namely because I was never sure when it was on and, because it's a UPN show, I never bothered to check. But tonight, as I happened to be fixing some dinner and had decided to eat it in front of the television -- and because the standup act on Comedy Central (I tend to watch whatever's on CC on these nights, since "Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy" is usually on Cartoon Network at the time and I fucking hate that show) had irritated me so greatly that I didn't want to see what followed, I ended up looking through the TV listings to see what else I could watch. And voila, the legendary "Veronica Mars" was coming on! So I watched. And, like I said, not bad! (more...)

Over the rainbow and into Hell.

The Muppets are doomed.

So I caught the last hour of The Muppets' Wonderful Wizard of Oz on Friday night -- and bloody hell it was one of the most horrible things I've ever seen. Really, Disney, what the fuck were you thinking?!?! Anyway, Scary-Crayon's got the full review, so check it out!

And if you're left wanting more Scary-Crayon Wizard of Oz related goodness when you finish, be sure to check out our review of The Wizard of Oz for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Ja! 😀
