I was in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago and it was so weird to experience... kind of like what you described with New York City. Impatient people everywhere. Portland is way more laid-back and the people are so much nicer, but then I went to Canada right after L.A. and it's like omg, it is the friendliest place ever. I felt totally happy and safe. So even though I like Portland, I keep eyeing Canada...

Honestly, Wes, I felt the same way when I visited last Fall and am curious if I will still feel that way this week. Even though I think NYC will always appeal to me as a visitor, I felt that I probably didn't fit the lifestyle as a resident. I liked (and picked) Seattle b/c it was kind of a hybrid of the laid-back ways of Hawaii and the city pace of NYC.

I don't know how to respond to that. I think I'm used to the New York lifestyle and forget that it can be more stressful than most of the others found in the country. The trick is to grow hardened and cold like most people that live in the vicinity.

I look forward to reading your more specific report.

Yeah, New York is unlike any other place in the world, in bad ways as well as good ways.

If you want a big city that's a little more laid back, try Seattle. Good luck finding work up there, though.
